Come on out and join us as we return on Presidents Day Weekend to Davy Crockett National Forest in east Texas. If you've never done trail work before, this is a great place to start!
Most of the work to be done will be on the 4-C Hiking Trail (one of the longest trails in Texas) and, according to our crew leader, the work will be fairly moderate (removing brush from the trail, clearing overgrown vegetation, rebuilding some bridges and tread repair).
A good pair of gloves and eye protection will come in handy so bring these items if you have them. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots because you'll be doing a lot of walking. You'll also want to come prepared for all types of weather, from shorts to winter clothing and always bring rain gear, because it's been pretty unpredictable lately!
The Forest Service staff will reserve tent campsites as soon as they know how many are coming. They'll also reserve RV sites for those who prefer this means of "camping". :o)
There is no trip fee and you'll have to provide your own meals. There are tent pads with picnic tables, water faucets and some electric hookups, plus grills at the campsites. Hot showers are a short distance away.
Some of the crew plan to start gathering on Feb. 12th so if you'd like to join them, contact Raymond Fore (Crew Leader) and let him know.
Everyone that's interested in this project should contact Raymond directly so he can add your name to his list and give you more specific details. He can be reached by e-mail at <rd4@suddenlink.net> or 936-632-6072. |
