The folks at Bastrop State Park have more work for us to do! This time, volunteers will build a major trail relocation on the 8.5 mile backcountry loop to move the trail away from a marshy area that is also habitat for the endangered Houston toad.
If you'd like to help....meet at the parking lot beside the swimming pool no later than 9a.m. on Saturday, March 13th. Check in at the headquarters office, drive to the "Y", take a left and the first right. The pool is ahead and parking is to the right before you reach the pool.
Remember that it's at least an hour, if not more, to the park from Austin (depending on which part of Austin you're in) so plan accordingly! If you live elsewhere, remember that traffic to Bastrop on any Saturday is pretty heavy.
Entrance to the park is free for volunteers. Check with project leader, Vick Hines, about the possibility of camping overnight.
Wear sturdy shoes and clothes that you won't mind getting muddy, if necessary. Be sure to bring a good pair of gloves, your lunch and plenty of water as well as something to carry these items in.
