Trail Tamers, we have a new, challenging trail project at The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Independence Creek Preserve (ICP) ICP is located between Dryden (US90) and Sheffield (IH10) on Texas 349. The location is roughly 300 miles west of Austin. Contact the Crew Leader, George Mading at (512)560-2540 with questions.
The project is to design, layout and build a foot trail in an area where there has never been a trail. The trailhead will be located near the ranch headquarters at ICP and extend an estimated 1.5 to 2 miles up the side of a canyon wall to an existing observation point, approximately 574 feet above the canyon floor.
This project will also serve as a training opportunity, as the volunteers will help design and layout the trail taking into consideration not only building a sustainable trail but also, in consultation with the site host, exploiting the scenic beauty and interpretive sites along the trail.
Camping is available adjacent to the bunkhouse or near the pavilion. This is a week long, open ended event. Participants can work all or part of the event as their schedule permits. Trip fees are assessed based on the number of days of participation at a rate of $15 per day. Meals will be provided. Please advise Crew Leader of planned days of participation.
