One thing to keep in mind when setting up a Payment Gateway is recurring billing. What that means is if you intend to run automatic billing for memberships you would be best served with a PayPal Payflow Gateway. Reason being that the automatic billing that occurs at the gateway level will be automatically recorded on your Memberize website daily. Other gateways may offer recurring billing but they require that you manually manage the gateway's automatic billings with your members in your Memberize database. A PayPal Payflow Gateway with recurring billing enabled is going to allow this to be an automatic process. PayPal Standard
You may already have a PayPal Standard account. You can use this, as yet another alternative, to collect payment from your members and event registrants. It's as easy as enabling your E-Commerce PayPal Option and entering in your PayPal login email address. This is an inexpensive way to get started accepting payments through your website but it is not the most effiicient way to do so. If you're planning on larger amounts of transactions you will be better served using a gateway/merchant account method for it's management benefits and streamlined user experience.
